<p>One thing you don&#8217;t not normally see being talked about, for those who are trying to lose weight, is the fact that your body&#8217;s weight loss will slow down or eventually stop at some point. That might happen soon after you start trying to lose weight or way down the road. There&#8217;s so many factors that come into play with plateaus that it&#8217;s impossible for me to tell you why it&#8217;s happened to you but you should know that its completely natural and if you still have more weight to lose there&#8217;s ways to kick start things.</p>
<p>If a person experiences a weight loss plateau, it means that it&#8217;s time to change something. I like to look at things scientifically. I start a person off on a certain workout routine/diet plan and track progress. When their fat loss starts slowing down I start changing one thing at a time until we figure out what it is that works. That way we don&#8217;t go meddling with so many variables that it becomes impossible to know what did what. Usually it&#8217;s the diet that needs to be changes unless you&#8217;re over training (which I find that many people do and it WILL stop your fat loss in its tracks). Here are some things to consider if you&#8217;ve hit a snag.</p>
<h2>Why am I not losing weight? reason 1: You are eating too few calories.</h2>
<p>It may sound confusing if this is one of the reasons why you have stopped losing weight. But it is true that in order for the body to burn calories, there must first be calories that it can burn. And only two things fuel your metabolism (yea that thing that actually helps you lose the weight). Calories (food) and exercise.When you cut your calories too low, your body&#8217;s natural response will be to slow down its metabolic processes. its a natural survival instinct of the body. To solve this, you must never cut too many calories from your diet. Measure your calorie intake so that it is leveled only slightly below your caloric maintenance levels.</p>
<h2>Why am I not losing weight reason 2: You are losing lean mass.</h2>
<p>Your goal may or may not be to build muscle but if you haven&#8217;t already you should consider adding in some strength training to your workouts. If your body loses muscle (which is inevitable if you&#8217;re losing weight and not strength training), it will also burn fewer calories as muscle weight costs more (metabolically) to maintain than fat. Added muscle weight also helps you burn more calories at rest. In order to gain muscle, you should be doing some form of strength training and getting in adequate levels of protein. <h2>Why am I not losing weight reason 3: You are exercising too much.</h2>
<p>Exercise is essential to losing weight. In fact you won&#8217;t make it past a certain point without it. But having a <strong><em>balanced</em></strong> diet and exercise routine is more important than anything else. Keyword &#8220;<em><strong>balanced&#8221;.</strong></em> One reason why you might not be losing weight is because you are over training. Over training causes the release of the stress hormone cortisol which in turn slows down your fat loss process dramatically. Any kind of stressors can do this to you including, anxiety, lack of sleep, over training, working long shifts or just about anything that puts abnormal amounts of stress on your body. The only way to know for sure if your cortisol levels are too high is to get a blood test done by a doctor. But either way it&#8217;s best to try to maintain a stress free lifestyle. Take a second and breathe a little.</p>
<h2>Why am I not losing weight reason 4: You are not sleeping enough.</h2>
<p>As I said earlier sleep can make or break your weight loss efforts. One reason being that when you&#8217;re asleep, your body secretes the majority of the growth hormone that it will secrete for the day. Human growth hormone is one of the most potent fat burning hormones our body produces so you want to use it to your best advantage. Top that off with the fact that lack of sleep causes increased cortisol levels and it&#8217;s easy to see why lack of sleep can ruin your progress.  It&#8217;ll greatly help your cause if you try to aim for seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Besides all of that it just plain feels better when you&#8217;re well rested</p>
<p>So there you have it. A few quick things to check off your list if you think you might have hit a weight loss plateau.</p>

<p>Jack LaLanne is truly an inspiration to many people, like myself. He&#8217;s an iconic representation of what it means to live a healthy life and he was FAR ahead of his time with his findings and advice on health and fitness back in the 50&#8242;s. It&#8217;s quite remarkable, looking back at his work on <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0229137/"><em>The Jack LaLanne Show</em></a> especially when you consider the time in which the clips were recorded. Many of the health and fitness principles he espoused weren&#8217;t even firmly rooted in science until many years later and most of them still hold true. He was always decades ahead of the trends in the health and fitness industry. The essentials of living a healthy life will never change and not many could elucidate them quite like Jack did. <em></em></p>
<p>I&#8217;d like to note how he correlates the benefits of training the abdominal wall on digestion and organ health. His talks on this topic were done in the 50&#8242;s. <p>Yup&#8230;Gotta love headlines that are full of hype&#8230;</p>
<p>In reality I can&#8217;t claim this to be the &#8220;most&#8221; effective full body work out routine. No one can claim that about any workout routine. But I will say it&#8217;s incredibly effective, will give you a lot of mileage (you can use it for a while without plateauing) if you work hard at it, and is surprisingly effective for how simple it is.  I&#8217;ll keep this simple and to the point:</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>Strength Training:</strong></em></span></p>
<p>-Building muscle will help you burn more calories at rest therefore<br />
-We want to stick to compound movements because they burn the most calories when performing them and they’re more effective at building muscle than isolation movements(Ex: Bench Press, Squat, Deadlifts).<br />
-You’re going to alternate between two full body workouts. And you’ll be going to the gym 3 non consecutive days of the week (M,W,F or T,Th,Sat).</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>Workout 1</em></span><br />
2 sets of Incline Bench Press 8-12 reps<br />
2 sets of reverse-grip Barbell Rows 8-12 reps<br />
1 set of Deadlifts 8-12 reps<br />
2 sets of Barbell curls 8-12 reps<br />
1 set of Hanging Leg Raises to failure 10-15 reps<br />
Cardio</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em>Workout 2</em></span><br />
2 sets of Standing Overhead Press 8-12 reps<br />
2 sets of  Pullups 8-12 reps<br />
2 sets of Squats 8-12 reps<br />
1 sets of Weighted Situps to failure 10-15 reps</p>
<p>The rule with warming up is, the heavier you go on an exercise the more warm up sets you do. So you’ll probably take a bit longer warming up for those Squats and Deadlifts. And if you&#8217;re into kettlebell workouts then you&#8217;ll probably want to replace the deadlifts for swings and the squats for pistols.</p>
<p>Then you get to your work sets where I want you pushing your self very hard, but not to the point of complete muscular failure. I would say 1 or 2(at most) reps away from failure. The only exception is the abdominal exercises where I want you doing 1 set to complete failure. Take about 45 seconds-1 minute of rest between warm up sets and 1-2 minutes between work sets. Squats and Deadlifts are the only exceptions as you&#8217;ll probably need to take a few more minutes of rest between sets. Now on to cardio…</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>Cardio</strong></em></span>:</p>
<p>-You want to do some sort of interval work for no longer than 20 minutes because&#8230;<br />
-It keeps your metabolism revved for a longer period of time post workout.<br />
-Intervals are simply proven to be the most effective form of cardio and it&#8230;<br />
-Won’t spike up your cortical levels like longer cardio sessions.</p>
<p>I’m going to have you pick a cardio machine or activity of choice and after warming up move at a pace that would get you completely winded in 2 minutes tops. When you get to that point slow down the pace for 1-2 minutes and catch your breath then repeat 3-5 more times. If your not completely wiped out by the end it’s because you’re not pushing yourself hard enough during the sprint.</p>
<p>I see way too many people who spend more time researching workout routines, or looking for the perfect workout routine in online forums or magazines than actually working out. Don&#8217;t be a keyboard jockey.</p>

<p>For one it&#8217;s scientifically proven to improve heart health and cardiovascular performance significantly faster than conventional cardio.  Second of all it also provides faster fat loss results. Lastly it takes less time to do than conventional cardio.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: left;">The Length of the Recovery Period-</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">This is determined by your goal, how good of shape you&#8217;re in, and how fast or slow you chose to go during the recovery period.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><em>If you&#8217;re goal is fat loss</em> then I&#8217;d recommend sprinting 45-60 seconds and making your rest periods 45-60 seconds.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">When you&#8217;re just starting you may not be in the best of shape and after sprinting for a minute it might take you a while to gather your energies for the next sprint. So when you&#8217;re just starting I&#8217;d recommend walking slowly during the recovery period until you&#8217;re in good enough shape that you can jog during the recovery period and recover well enough for the next sprint..</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><em>If you&#8217;re an athlete</em> who participates in a sport that requires you to be constantly moving at a moderate pace with intermittent sprinting (Soccer players come to mind) I&#8217;d still recommend sprinting for 45-60 seconds with a recovery period of 45-60 seconds. With any kind of athletic training your training should mimic the actions that will be performed on the field.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Quick Note:</strong> This type of cardio is intense and it can be easy to over train so I would only do it 2-3 times a week.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">HIIT Cardio Best Practice For Fat Loss:</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">So I&#8217;ve spoken about how to structure the sprint to rest ratio for your purposes.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Once you do that I would strive to keep upping the intensity until you manage to decrease total workout time to 15-20 minutes.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Immediately after your intervals when you&#8217;re sucking wind and cursing at the sky I would slow down and walk at a moderate pace for an additional 30 minutes. Now I know said that HIIT cardio is the best form of cardio you could possibly do but this last step is the extra push to get you to really burn more fat.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">You see when you perform intense intervals your body undergoes a slew of adaptations and one of the things that happens is your body releases fatty acids into your blood stream.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The general rule is that the more intense the cardio the more glycogen you deplete from your muscles and the slower you go with a lower heart rate the more of the calories you&#8217;re burning come from fat. So why not just walk your way to fat loss? Because the minuscule amount of calories you burn on an hour long walk would be instantly replenished with something as little as a handful of nuts, rendering the walk useless for the purpose of fat loss. But when you perform HIIT cardio you increase  EPOC(Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption). <h2><span style="color: #000000;">Most fitness enthusiasts understand the correlation between intensity and amount of rest days</span></h2>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"> At least when it comes to strength training but for some reason most don&#8217;t apply the same rules to their cardiovascular workouts. They seem to think that more is better <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_infinitum">ad infinitum</a>. My best clients are usually the ones that are so eager to get results NOW that they completely change their crappy diets cold turkey and start doing cardio obsessively. So my job with them is simple. Teach them to work harder and rest more.</span></p>
<h2><span style="color: #000000;">The fact is all you need are 1-3 intense (15-20 minutes of intervals) cardio sessions per week&#8230;</span></h2>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">and an optional 2-4 light cardio sessions like a long brisk walk.<br />
A simple way to get started on your path to a lean and healthy body is to pick an activity like running (or walking if you can&#8217;t handle running), swimming, rowing, or spinning. Then perform 16 minutes (after waming up) of what you feel to be &#8220;moderately&#8221; intense cardio on 3 non consecutive days a week. After the second week add 2 minutes to your cardio sessions per week until you reach 30 minutes of nonstop cardio 3 times a week.</span></p>

Overtime you&#8217;ll get in much better shape, you&#8217;re pain tolerance will increase and so will your ability to push harder on the intervals.</span></p>
<h2><span style="color: #000000;">Eventually most will only need a 10-15 minute intense cardio workout&#8230;</span></h2>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">to leave them on the floor gasping for air. You&#8217;ll lose fat much faster than with marathon cardio sessions and you won&#8217;t have to work nearly as long. Plus it&#8217;s just plain fun if you&#8217;re a sadistic bastard such as myself.</span></p>

<p>Everyone wants to get from point a to b in the shortest amount of time with the least amount of struggle. And why wouldn&#8217;t they? It&#8217;s only natural.</p>
<p>Rapid is relative and sometimes rapid fat loss is possible in some situations but that isn&#8217;t the healthiest way of approaching the matter of fat loss. For people that have a lot of weight to lose, and to those who truly have the dedication to put not only their diet but their workout routine and lifestyle in order it&#8217;s possible to make rapid fat loss occur. But expecting overnight results is not the best way to approach this. You&#8217;re going to have to look at it as a lifestyle change . Most people interested in fat loss are going to have to put in the work of changing their eating habits and working out consistently to make it happen, and even then it&#8217;s not going to happen by next week. If you want to do this in a healthy and lasting way It&#8217;s going to take some time. This is why crash diets always tend to go out of season. The results never last. The mentality behind wanting rapid fat loss although common is inherently flawed.</p>
<p><strong>{I&#8217;m guessing a good percentage of people stopped reading after that last paragraph and proceeded to look for the next shiny, glossy &#8220;magic pill&#8221; wrapped up in nothing less than great advertising&#8230;or hopefully not.}</strong></p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #000000;">&#8220;Work&#8230;ehhh&#8221;</span></h3>
<p>Yes believe it or not you&#8217;re going to have put some work into losing fat&#8230; I know crazy right?</p>
<p>Most people are still looking for a short cut. But seriously it doesn&#8217;t have to be such a drag like a lot of people make it out to be. The process can be fun, fulfilling, and really make you feel good about yourself and your body.</p>
<p>The three primary components of a healthy and perhaps but not necessarily always rapid fat loss program are&#8230;</p>
<h2></h2>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Nutrition</span></span></h2>
<p><em>The questions to ask yourself regarding nutrition are:</em></p>
<p>1- Are you overeating?</p>
<p>Overeating is one of the primary culprits behind why people can&#8217;t lose weight. Many people would be surprised to realize how many calories they&#8217;re ingesting.  Counting your calories  in a food journal for a few is an excellent way to find out whether your under eating or over eating without even knowing it. Trust me just about  everyone who starts a food journal is shocked at what they learn about how they eat. You don&#8217;t have to do it permanently. Just do it for 2-3 weeks to learn about what foods are calorie dense and learn more about how you eat. It&#8217;s eye opening when you see it all on paper. This how those who are massive over eaters can learn to cut back and usually expect some pretty rapid fat loss.</p>
<p>2- Are you under eating?</p>
<p>Under eating can actually slow down your metabolism and freeze your fat loss in its tracks. A food journal can help you figure out whether you&#8217;re under or over eating.</p>
<p>[Wonder why some homeless people are overweight? They're not exactly stuffing themselves full of food all day]</p>
<p>3- Are you eating the wrong things?</p>
<p>In small amounts these things are fine but you&#8217;ve got to limit your:  Sugar, Caffeine, Starches, Saturated Fats.</p>
<p>4- Are you eating the right things?</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve got to be getting in your: Fiber (25-40g per day), Protein, Non- Starchy Vegetables(These happen to be a great source of fiber).</p>
<p>5- How are you spacing out your meals?</p>
<p>There&#8217;s lot&#8217;s to be said on this. Way too much to discuss here&#8230; There&#8217;s many ways to go about losing fat but in my opinion Intermittent Fasting is not only the easiest physiologically and psychologically but it&#8217;s quite effective as well&#8230; I&#8217;m just trying to give you guys an overview of the basics of fat loss here so I won&#8217;t write a post within a post about meal timing.</p>
<p>As far as meal timing goes if you&#8217;ve never heard of <a href="http://2d769-ujm91fpqd3ohzsxhu-2r.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank">Eat Stop Eat</a> then do yourself a favor and check it out. It&#8217;s an excellent resource on intermittent fasting for fat loss and it&#8217;s done wonders for tons of people. It&#8217;s not a miracle pill by far but it&#8217;s easier to follow and sustainable unlike most crash diets.</p>
<p>6- Do you cook at home or do you eat out a lot? (hint: this can affect all of the above)</p>
<p>Eating out is fine once you&#8217;ve mastered healthy eating and can spot crap on a dish from a mile away. The problem is most of the times you don&#8217;t know how your food is cooked or what&#8217;s in it.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Activity</span></span></h2>
<p>1- Do you perform at least 3 cardio sessions per week?</p>
<p>Most people should be doing at least 3 cardio sessions per week if they want to be seeing optimal fat loss results.</p>
<p>2- Do you strength train?</p>
<p>Building muscle can help you burn fat while you sit and channel surf due to the fact that it costs your body more energy(calories) to maintain extra lean tissue(muscle).</p>
<p>3- Do you perform <a href="http://www.thefitnesschronicles.com/150/hiit-cardio-hiit-workout-routine/">HIIT</a> (High Intensity Interval Training)?</p>
<p>High Intensity Interval training is one of the best ways to lose fat and its scientifically documented that it not only gets you in shape faster but also makes you lose fat faster than conventional cardio. <a href="http://0ee20ajfi9sf1t0j6hrpw9s8q8.hop.clickbank.net/" target="_blank">Turbulence Training </a>is a great resource of varied and effective HIIT workouts that you can do at home without the need for equipment.</p>
<p>4- Are you giving your body enough time, and resources to recover between workout sessions?(This ties into stress as well)</p>
<p>This is discussed below.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Stress</span></span></h2>
<p>1- Are you stressed out?</p>
<p>Stress can manifest itself in many ways but in relation to fat loss stress increases your cortisol(stress hormone) levels which can slow down and even completely stop your fat loss.<br />
2- Are you giving your body enough time, and resources to recover between workout sessions?(as mentioned earlier)</p>
<p>Even though many people tend to under train others tend to over training which will in turn increase cortisol levels. 2-3 days of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and 2-3 days of weight training a week are enough. Even then monitor how you feel and if you&#8217;re constantly beat up and tired you might need to cut back even further.</p>
<p>3- Are you sleeping enough?</p>
<p>You should be getting 7-8 hours of solid uninterrupted sleep or else you could be compromising your cortisol levels.</p>
<p>4- Are you sleeping well?</p>
<p>Are you waking up to pee multiple times per night? Do you wake easily? Again you need 7-8 hours of solid uninterrupted sleep. Yes it is that important&#8230;</p>
<p>5- Do you manage your stress effectively?</p>
<p>Do the little things get to you? Are you easily upset or frazzled? Effectively handling  stress is essential to not only living a happier and more productive life but also to maintaining healthy cortisol levels. If you clicked over here in hopes of finding a rapid fat loss routine, chill out. There is no rush. It WILL happen if you want it to but doing this in a healthy and lasting way is what&#8217;s most important.</p>
<p>6- Do you meditate, pray or do you have some sort of spirituality in your life? (Don&#8217;t worry I won&#8217;t be persuading you to believe in any religion. I&#8217;m not religious myself)</p>
<p>Besides the fact that meditation can lower stress levels among many other positives. Studies show that people with some kind of spirituality in their lives tend to have more focus and are happier with their lives. Being happier means lower cortisol levels which in turn makes it easier to lose fat.</p>

<p>Well the good thing is most people don&#8217;t have to completely turn their lives around just to lose fat. It&#8217;s just good to go through a checklist like that to see where you can make improvements and what exactly is holding you back from your goals.</p>
<p>If you hadn&#8217;t noticed a lot of the questions have to do with lifestyle. Losing fat has a lot to do with being healthy overall. The fact is if you&#8217;ve always lived a healthy lifestyle, fat is most likely not a concern for you except in some rare cases. Even if it is and you want to lose those last few pounds to get to your goal weight or to get those abs for beach season it could be that something on that checklist isn&#8217;t quite optimal and when tweaked that could be the &#8220;magic bullet&#8221;(or not so &#8220;magic&#8221; bullet) that helps you achieve your goal.</p>

<p>-There are no magic bullets. Sorry&#8230;</p>
<p>-Rapid fat loss is sometimes possible but expecting overnight results isn&#8217;t the best way to approach the matter of fat loss.</p>
<p>-Live a healthy lifestyle and fat won&#8217;t be an issue for you.</p>
<p>-Losing Fat doesn&#8217;t have to be a drag. Living a healthier lifestyle can not only feel good on the inside but make you feel better about how you look on the outside.</p>
<p>-Look at the checklist above and see what you can make improvements on.</p>
<p>-Quit worrying about whether you&#8217;ll be achieving slow and consistent or rapid fat loss and get moving! What matters is that for those of you ready to take action YOU WILL have the body you want in due time. Just take action!</p>

<h2><span style="color: #000000;">4 &#8211; Most Exercise Science degree’s teach little (if any) of the basics of  Personal Training, or how to apply theory in the real world. </span></h2>
<p>I’m sure I’m going to get some flak for this one. But, I think most people with Exercise Science degrees don‘t know how to be Personal Trainers. That’s because they’re mostly <a href="http://doctor.webmd.com/physician_finder/home.aspx">Doctors</a>, <a href="http://www.apta.org/">Physical Therapists</a>, <a href="http://www.nata.org/">Athletic Trainers</a>, or <a href="http://www.asep.org/">Exercise Physiologists</a>.  The fact is almost everyone who majors in Exercise Science does so to get the prereq’s for either Physical Therapy or Medical school. If not then they do so to become Exercise Physiologists or Athletic Trainers and either work in hospitals or deal with athletes to prevent and treat injuries. Very few study exercise science to become personal trainers.</p>
<p>[Some people might find that weird being that the word “exercise” is part of the name.]</p>
<p>Now I’m just going by what I see and it seems like having that degree has done little to nothing in the way of helping most personal trainers any better at training clients. I’m certain that there are plenty who had all the necessary prerequisites (a burning passion for fitness, charisma, great people skills)  to being an outstanding trainer who enhanced their view of fitness through higher education. But you can honestly learn more about fitness and personal training from the Internet and in a much shorter period of time.</p>
<p>Paul Chek, for example, is one the most well known and renowned personal trainers in the world. He’s developed systems and programs that Doctors, Physical Therapists, and Personal Trainers around the world use on a daily basis. Yet he has no degree. Yeah, yeah I’m sure we can all site examples of great trainers with or without exercise science degrees but my opinion stands. An Exercise Science degree does nothing to make a trainer any better and is usually used as a marketing tool to give social proof and make a trainer seem more “legit”. Can’t blame anyone for doing that though it only makes sense if you have that degree.</p>
<h2><span style="color: #000000;">5 &#8211; Having 20 letters after their name doesn’t make someone a better trainer.</span></h2>
<p>If you’re a Personal Trainer and have worked in the industry for at least a year you know that it seems like there are more certifications than then there are dumbbells in your average gym. It literally seems as if there’s a new certification coming out each day. And a lot of trainers are extremely eager to acquire as many of these certifications as they can in an attempt to be better trainers.</p>
<p>But the sad fact is that most of these certifications are created to give a product “authority” and to increase its perceived value(ex: Kettlebell, Bosu Ball, and Swiss Ball certifications). And a lot of them are created just to make money off of the latest fitness fad.</p>
<p>Now some certifications really do provide value to a trainer and give him/her the knowledge and understanding to become a better trainer, but those are far and few in between.</p>
<p><em><strong>Just because your trainer is WTVR, CSCS, TTLY-FUKD, or BS certified doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean they&#8217;re truly an expert at what they do.</strong></em></p>

<h2><span style="color: #339966;"><strong><strong><span style="color: #000000;">6 &#8211; &#8220;Oh look a bird&#8221;<br />
</span></strong></strong></span></h2>
<p>If your trainer spends more time checking himself, or the television out during a session you need a new trainer. Why gyms need a television anywhere else besides the cardio area is beside me.  But I&#8217;m not going to go off on that rant.</p>
<p>Now I&#8217;ve noticed this myself on a few occasions but it&#8217;s mainly my clients that have told me they&#8217;ve seen this. Either from their experiences with past trainers or observations they&#8217;ve made in the gym.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s the trainer who can&#8217;t help but position himself in ways that make his tricep flex and bunch up against his lat at the perfect angle to be &#8220;noticed&#8221; in the mirror.</p>
<p>Then there&#8217;s the trainer who barely pays attention to anything that&#8217;s going on with the client and is waiting to see the replay of  the last touchdown made on the Redskins. Yes the Redskins&#8230;</p>
<p>How about the trainer that has his cell phone in his hand for 70% of the session. No, not to use it as a stopwatch&#8230;</p>
<p>You get the gist.  Need I say more?</p>
<h2><span style="color: #000000;">7 &#8211; &#8220;I&#8217;m more interested in my numbers than your health and well being&#8221;</span></h2>
<p>Personal Training isn&#8217;t like most 9 to 5&#8242;s. Most of us only get paid when we complete a session. And if we work at a big chain gym we most likely get paid a low hourly rate($7-9) when we&#8217;re not training and get offered commissions to sell Personal Training packages and sometimes even supplements endorsed by the gym [Ex: X-Sport Fitness]. So for most of us in this industry, we have to have the ability to sell if we want to survive. Many trainers (including myself) let the results and testimonials do all the selling. Nothing is wrong with sales one bit and your local chiropractor and massage therapist must accrue business in the same manner.</p>
<p>When I first started training I remember thinking that my passion for fitness, energy, and willingness to learn was all I&#8217;d ever need to make a good living as a trainer. I was sadly mistaken. It surely did help but if no one knew I existed there was no way they could realize how much I had to offer.</p>
<p>The problem is that some trainers become too fixated on their sales numbers and sometimes sell clients stuff they don&#8217;t really need. No&#8230; you and your overweight co-worker/friend don&#8217;t need to be getting half of the protein you eat everyday from Muscle-Tech&#8217;s new Ultra- Highly Bio-available, Super-Quasi-Tri-Delivery, Peptide Enhanced, Amino Infused Whey Protein Isolate Powder&#8230; I promise.</p>
<p>You also most likely don&#8217;t need to sign a contract for 6 one hour sessions a week for the next 5 years. I mean you might&#8230;But most likely you don&#8217;t.</p>
<p>What I&#8217;m trying to say with this last point is be weary if you&#8217;re asked to spend ungodly amounts of money on stuff that doesn&#8217;t seem to be that important. Most of the times people are too hesitant to invest money on something that can <strong>truly</strong> change their lives. And many times their too gullible and fall for any hard sell.</p>
<p>Not all salesmen are snakes. And many of us in the Personal Training industry came into it because of a real passion for fitness and healthy living and a desire to help as many people as we could. Just beware that there are rotten apples in every bunch.</p>

<p>And I must say it was incredible. We hiked <a href="http://www.hikingupward.com/snp/oldrag/">Old Rag Mountain</a> in the <a href="http://www.nps.gov/shen/index.htm">Shenandoah National Park</a>. It&#8217;s supposedly the most scenic hike in Virginia, and we quickly found out why. The pictures I took out there were amazing but it doesn&#8217;t compare to being there yourself. The views were incredible, the landscape was just breath taking, and there were plenty of places to sit down and enjoy the serenity.</p>
<p>Now I&#8217;m not big on hiking but I thought an 8 mile walk would be cake. Wrong.</p>
<p>First off every other step was onto a rock, and after a while that took a toll on my ankles(I&#8217;m flat footed). Second of all the whole hike was an incline. You&#8217;re pretty much hiking <strong><em>up</em></strong> the mountain. Third of all I&#8217;d say a good 15% of the hike was climbing rocks as tall as me to continue hiking the trail. So I wouldn&#8217;t say I was completely wiped but I definitely felt tired afterward.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #000000;">While We Were Hiking We Saw Two Guys With A Stretcher Walking Towards Us</span></h3>
<p>When we asked them what had happened they told us that a lady behind us had inured her knee and couldn&#8217;t walk and that they we going to get her. As we neared the end of our hike we saw a park ranger and we got to talking. When asked how many people get killed on Old Rag Mountain per year he told us about 4. And many more get injured on that hike. Apparently they get a call for some kind of accident at least once a week. I just find that crazy. The hike wasn&#8217;t that bad the only way <strong><em>that many</em></strong> people were getting hurt was if they were severely deconditioned. I guess it goes to show how out of shape this nation really is.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #000000;">When We Approached The Top Of The Mountain&#8230;</span></h3>
<p>We found a spot to sit down and as soon as I did, I felt the urge to just close my eyes and breathe. There&#8217;s something about the energy in some places that compels me to meditate. Even though there were other hikers around me I found it easier to meditate there than I do at home alone. It wasn&#8217;t for long but when I got up I definitely felt my mind was calm and refreshed.</p>
<h3><span style="color: #000000;">Overall&#8230;</span></h3>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">It was an amazing experience. I will definitely be back to hike Old Rag Mountain again. Next time I&#8217;ll try to do it during the week when almost no one goes to have some more solitude. I want to thank Ana for taking me there in the first place. Thanks Ana!</span></p>
